No, she didn't.

Personally I find Ro Laren one of Star Trek's best characters.

I liked the character, her background story and the reason why she was the person she was. I wish that she had become a permanent character in TNG.

Therefore I'm happy to see that she's a permanent character in the DS9 Relaunch books.

Rajiin, you're wrong. She was great. More rough edges. Better than the all-too-perfect other characters in earlier seasons.

Rajiin - December 18, 2007 04:25 PM (GMT)
Maybe it was her mole ........ *hears Uncle Buck in the background* ......... it grossed me out. Maybe it was her attitude ......... the same attitude she had in BSG. Maybe it was that all Bajoran women had a big ass chip on their shoulders. Your life sucked, we get it. Boofricketyhoo. Do something positive and make it better.

I'm a very positive person and I guess negative characters just rub me the wrong way.

I liked Ro she was not your typical Star fleet officer she had an edge and let her passions show.

I like Michelle Forbes as an actress.
She was great as Admiral Cain in BSG.

She was too much of a butch for me in BSG. I love lesbians but c'mon ........... at least act like you're a woman.

Now, the Six lesbian .......... yeah, I would have done her. And then I would have done Apollo.

I think your problem with Bajoran women is that they all ended up being based on Ro, heck Ro was supposed to be in DS9, when she turned it down they tweaked Ro's Character into Kira

I read on Memory Alpha that Michelle Forbes was offered a role as Ro Laren on Voyager but she turned that down too.

yep, and if you really look carefully at first season B'Elanna and Kira, it becomes pretty clear that originally the Character was supposed to be Ro originally before being reworked into the final product

So going by that it looks like Michelle Forbes was almost as big a bitch as her charactor was meant to be portrayed as

Lynx - December 23, 2007 07:04 AM (GMT)
I don't think that Ensign Ro was a bitch. She was a good person with a tragic background who did what she thought was right. OK, she had an attitude but there were reasons for that and she did get along well with the Enterprise crew in the long run and could have been a good officer.

But she realized that she belonged with the Maquis instead of assisting Starfleet in their pathetic crawling for the Cardassian aggressors. In a way, I admire her for that.

As for Michelle Forbes, I don't know her reasons for turning those offers down, other than that she wanted to make movies instead. It's a bit sad that she declined, especially since her career after Star Trek hasn't been that successfull.

But at least we have Ro back in the DS9 books!

Kinda like David Caruso's after he left NYPD Blue.
Michelle wanted to make movies, but didn't get the roles she had hoped for.
But she has been in some Soaps, Prison Break, and of course, BSG.
We don't always have the career that we started out for.
Life can spank you pretty hard sometimes. :spank: [B]

I do wonder how DS9 would've turned out had they kept Ro in Kira's stead. Would she have stayed the same hothead all the way through, or would she have mellowed like Kira?

Hard to say. She didn't exactly have the greatest of episodes coinciding with her appearences, but then again she was a more major character in TNG than O'Brien, and he turned out to be a fleshed out character in DS9. I reckon that It must be hard when you only appear for a couple of episodes. You have to develop a character instantly, and have no chance to develop it past what is laid down from the start.

Trekwolf164 - December 26, 2007 09:48 PM (GMT)
Being as she abandoned Star Fleet and became a Marquis I doubt Sisko would have trusted her very much.

That was in the penultimate episode of TNG. DS9 was at the end of it's 2nd season. We would never have had that story.

Well at first I wasn't real crazy about her character but then she grew on me and ended up being one of my favorites. Bajoran women just seem more ballsy than any other females of another species except Klingon women maybe and that is cool. I'm a female and like as kicking chicks portraying our sex as opposed to overly dramatic man serving twits. So, Ensign Ro was AWESOME!!

Mojochi - February 14, 2008 04:02 PM (GMT)
the character wasn't entirely horrible, but the episodes that centered around her tended to be weak

I remember when they had that disaster on the ENT, & Troi was in command, & Ro kept giving O'Brien shit

That pissed me off. I was like "Hey man! That's O'Brien! What he says is worth a shit load more than anything you've ever said, you pain in the ass!"

QDonQ - February 17, 2008 04:52 PM (GMT)
Ro was one of my favorite characters in all Star trek... She was great.

If she had been in more episodes she could have been as loved to me as, dare I say it, (dare...dare) a Captain Kirk or Spock.

Josh_Lyman - July 22, 2008 06:49 AM (GMT)
I liked Ensign Ro at first but now I hate her because she betrayed the Federation, Starfleet and Captain Picard.

Ensign Sito was nothing like Ro.
