Title: PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't do this...
Description: in the new movie

Kªi™ - August 20, 2007 07:14 PM (GMT)
One thing I pray doesn't happen in the new movie is an inclusion of even ONE Klingon. No matter what they were to do with a Klingon in that movie, the bashers would tear it to pieces.

-Thanks to Enterprise, the Klingons should have smooth foreheads. So if Abrams wanted to stay true to Trek lore, he'd have to have Klingons with smooth heads. Which would totally piss off many people who THINK they know what a Klingon is.

-If he has Klingons all cool looking with ridged foreheads, then the canonites will tear that apart too.

It's a no-win situation for Abrams. Best to avoid it all together.

yup

no klingons. It's impossible.

but I bet they will have some and I bet they will be bumpy

I tend to agree.
If they're going to make a Trek Movie without Klingons, they're bound to piss fans off.
They might be better off not including them. Maybe the Romulans????

That wouldn't work either. Kirk's first encounter with Romulans happens in TOS.

Are there any Enterprise aliens that Kirk could first encounter in Academy?

Xindi and Suliban are the only ENTERPRISE specific species that I can think of.

wissaboo - August 20, 2007 10:13 PM (GMT)
there were denobulans and any of the aliens encountered in the expanse including the one that used a virus to convert other life forms into their species.

there were a lot of one episode ones. I don't know if any of them made a big enough impression to build a movie on. But then trill were only a one episode TNG alien and look what they did with them

That reminds me....McCoy had a love affair with one of Dax's previous hosts back when he was younger. B)

I forgot about "Balance of Terror" from TOS.
It's one of my favorite episodes.

I'm sure they'll have the Klingons, Romulans, Borg, Trill, Dominion, Cardassian, Kazon, Time traveling! it'll be great! we'll just throw everything even remotely recognizable as Trek in all at once and then everyone will have something they like, and EVERYONE will have something to bash! it's perfect! :allteeth:

Ok... now to be serious I agree with Kai about the klingon thing, they are a no no, why don't they just do what's always worked in the past? make up a new alien race or super powered being or whatever

Here's the problem with that. Unless they kill off that race by the end of the movie, how can you explain away why this race was never seen in any of the other movies or tv series? Any alien worth his salt would appear later down the road, wouldn't they?

I tend to develop this nasty cough around Enterprise discussions.

Kai's got you there Raj, ENT was the show that decided to open this can of worms, none of their new aliens ever show up in later series, so if the movie had to make up a new race it would probably just go the same way

Good point Darren. Thanks for pointing that out.

 I bet if we started going episode to episode on every series we could come up with hundreds of aliens that were never heard of again.

klingongs would be a very hard thing to do right. id say that it would be easier now just to do a klingon as we know them to be now rather than how they appeared in TOS. But if it is a "re-boot" as such, it shouldnt matter what he does anyway, as long as things after that film remain to context.

klingons will be a problem, i think id prefer to see them as they appear now, TOS probably would have had them like that too if they had more of a budget and the resources. and the movies had the "normal" klingons so i think it can be safe to give them bumpy heads.

well from a production standpoint we all know (or atleast I think many of us know) that in TMP Klingons were done the way they always wanted to do them all along, they just didn't have the budget or the techniques to do it right on TOS

but then there's the problem of ENT having to retconn stuff because their first klingon scenes showed up as they'd appear post TMP, so they did that whole genetic manipulation thing, meaning unfortunatly now it's canon that TOS era they should have smooth foreheads not bumpy ones

And here, I cannot help but wonder who he will choose to score the film....(personally...I hope John Ottman. A. He's good. B. He's a Trekky that has been around since the days of TOS)

Personally, I think that no matter what already existing ST alien that he puts in, he's going to face negative fan reaction. Some fans only exist to be stupid and piss people off. They are never happy unless they are on their couch, eating a bucket of shit while watching Star Trek while being a hater of all the other series.

:o That pretty much says it all right there.
