Title: Book club!!

wissaboo - August 11, 2007 06:17 AM (GMT)
I don't know how many of you read star trek novels, but this might be a good way to start if you are interested.

I'm starting a book club!!

How it will work is we will have a set book every month that we can read and discuss. There will be a sign up thread where interested members can add thier name and pick a book. Each month we will move down the list to the next members book. A thread will be started for each months books and we can discuss it. Of course, if you have read the book on your own, your comments will be welcome as well.

Lots of trek titles are available on ebay and on amazon.com. You should be able to find books for under $10

"starfleet academy" will be awesome.

wissaboo - September 12, 2007 11:34 PM (GMT)
well. no one seems interested in the book club idea. So we will just turn this into a general trek book forum. Feel free to start any topics you wish relating to trek novels

I like the book club idea!

I just saw this, sorry.

I'm getting ready to read book 2 in the Vanguard series. "Calling in the Thunder" I belive it is. Once it comes in Barnes and Noble, I'd love to read and discuss it.

Book one (Harbinger) was awsome. Basically it centers around Starbase: Vanguard and it's crew. There was an appearance from either a newly minted Kirk or outgoing Pike, I can't remember. There's action, I spy and some good humor. Lot's of fun.

As for non-Trek, I just discoverd StarFist about a group of 25th century Confederation Marines (I'm assuming the guys who take over once the Earth becomes a single government).

Really good stuff, writting by a former Marine and combat veteran as well as an Army SgtMaj (also combat vet), so it's realistic and very catchy.

welcome back

Thanks!

so I've just read two star trek books. Well almost.

The first was Articles of the Federation by Keith R.A. DeCandido. It was just horrid. Takes place in star fleet headquarters and centres around the president. There are no characters previously known other than a conversation with Admiral Janeway, and apparantly Alexander is now a diplomat. There are a few little subplots that seem to be going nowhere. and not much else. Couldn't even finish it. And I am usually fanatical about finishing books.

The second was Ragnarok by Nathan Archer (my husband had to point out the archer bit  ) It's a voyager book and the first book I'd read, other than the one above) that wasn't TOS. It was decent. Spent a little too much time telling us who the crew was and why they were in the delta quadrant. But there was a nice little tie in with the last tos episode I had watched.

Thanks for the steer clear warning.

If you have read a lot of TOS then perhaps you can help me. I read a TOS novel when Iwas a teen where the Enterprise and crew end up in another galaxy and must fight their way out.

Ever heard of it?

nope

havn't really read many of the novels at all. Which is weird. Because I've loved trek since I was about 7 and my parents actually used to yell at me for reading too much.

i have read a few of the novels, ok well a heap. But my folks used to yell at me for reading too much too.

I just sold my lot of books. There is no point to take them down south when I move.

finally finished the enterprise novel. What Price Honor

It was pretty good. There were all these flashbacks that were pretty hard to follow. They ended up being important part of the plot. But they were still hard to follow.

well being an Enterprise based novel it stands to reason that it should be hard to follow, just like the show was :allteeth:

must you follow people around and say something nasty about Enterprise every time it is mentioned?

now that was just insulting. Save the condescending, passive aggressive bitchiness for someone else.

AdmiralGummy - October 17, 2007 06:35 PM (GMT)
I just ordered Shatner's newest Trek Novel from his website.
They're supposed to start shipping on Thursday.
I can't wait for it to come.

Alisium - October 17, 2007 07:37 PM (GMT)
I ordered that second Vanguard book about a month ago and it still hasn't gotten in. WTF????

:wtf: Meeeeoooowww. Put the claws away Kitty Kat. Darren is only joking around. I'm sure he meant no insult by his statement. And I'm sure he'll refrain from the Enterprise bashing from now on. :nono:
