Okay, so was the original Defiant the only one of it's class to have a cloaking device? I know that the original was equiped with it by a deal with the Romulans, but I'm not sure if it's replacement, the Sao Paulo, had one or not.

I'm sure it did on the show, but that could simply have been a continuity problem from a writing stand point
otherwise unless they talked to the Romulans again it shouldn't have had one

The Defiant in the game Star Trek Armada received a cloaking device from the Klingons. but yeah. I know. Games don't count as canon.
So, I doubt it does have one.

once they were able to incorperate it into one ship of that class i think perhaps all the defiant class star ships would then have it... defnetly both defiants in the series had it, i know it wasnt apparant in the second incarnation but i think it did have

I was under the impression that the Defiant cloak was the Romulans and they used it only with there authorizatiion in the Gamma quadrent

The Avenger, it was the Avenger. Sorry, couldn't help myself.
Anyway, on Armada II, I equipped the Standard Defiant-Class ships with a cloak. B)

i think all defiant class ships after the success of the defiant were built to include cloaking technology, which the romulans i imagine kept supplying due to the war effort.

it was never stated, so who knows *shrug*
I guess they could have maybe amended the treaty of er.... how ever you spell it :allteeth:
to allow for cloaking devices in times of war or something
but in any case it's not like Starfleet needs the Romulans to supply anything, heck they do Cloak better than the Romulans, if you recall Starfleet secretly built a working phase cloaking device, when the Romulans tried to do that they almost exploded their whole test ship

We never saw the new Defiant cloak or uncloak. Plus, as things stood at the time, there were Romulan and Klingon ships that could cloak. The Romulans had no reason to offer a new cloaking device to Starfleet, as they had nothing to gain by doing so.
