Title: Was Trelane a Q?
Description: from "the Squire of Gothos"

Apart from the very end when his parents take him home, which i find very funny, the powers Trelane shows, the things he can do, and the way they have a way of looking upon the humans as lower life is very similar. also the way there is a scene in a coart room is similar too, so i was wondering, is Trelane a young Q, is he a similar species? what does everyone think?

I've wondered this myself. I think it's very possible. And I think that I read somewhere that he actually was a Q. I think it was in one of Shatner's Trek Books.

well if he was then that would be interesting because it would have meant that the Q have for quite a while been interested in the humans growth.
He certanly challenged them like the Q we know from TNG enjoyed. life on the line challenges which were only fun to him.

You make an interesting point. Trelane does display tendencies like Q. And are very similar in behavior. It does make me wonder.

Although Trelane was very Q like it was revealed at the end of the show that he had parents . In Voyager we find Q reproduces for the first time . So Trelane either has to be Q's son or another higher form of life

well he is immature, like Q's son, and they posses the ability to travil throughout time so i guess it is still possable!

I'm hoping that the Okuda's put out an updated edition of the Star Trek Encyclopedia with info about Enterprise, and the other movies that aren't included in the last edition that came out in 1999.

Paramount and the O'kudas announced at the 2006 Vegas Con that 1999 was the last edition

Even though there was a novel that used the fact that Trelane was a young Q as it's premise (I think it was actually by Peter David), the is a big difference...Trelane needed machinery to focus his powers, a true Q needs no such thing.
Maybe somewhere along the evolutionary ladder the two may be related, but they are not the same species.

intresting idea.
what about the greek god ones. They could have been Q's
starbase63 - June 19, 2008 12:28 PM (GMT)
Maybe, but more likely yet another superior species with a superior attitude. Plus Apollo also needed something to focus his powers like Trelane, something a Q has no need of.

At first, I thought that Trelane could have been a Q, but SB makes a valid point about how he can't possibly be.
Unless, as a possible "Q-In-Training", he needed help focusing his powers?

I do wonder actually now if maybe he is one of the missing links in evolution from human form to the form the Q have in TNG, that was a stage when they found how to harness power but were still attached to mortal ideals and focus, so it could be a sub-Q species along the evolutionary ladder.

Interesting concept.
Good thinking there!

I read in one Star Trek book that Gary Mitchell and Dr. Dehner had become Qs.

Im with everyone else... I dont think he is a Q because he has parents..
I think he is just a different species...
I like the idea of him being a missing link in evolution from human form to the form the Q have in TNG... thats interesting.
