And just to further show Paramount doesn't learn from ANY mistakes, what is being released a few days before? Yep, another Harry Potter movie...
As soon as st is up again I will post a link...

Christmas Day 2008 Release for "Star Trek XI"
The next motion picture of the Star Trek franchise, tentatively titled "Star Trek XI," will begin filming this fall for theatrical release on Christmas Day 2008. The official announcement was made today by Paramount Pictures. Last Friday J.J. Abrams, already announced as producer of the project, finalized a deal to also direct the movie (related story). The screenplay, which reportedly will be a prequel revolving around a young James T. Kirk and Mr. Spock, has been written by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, who previously collaborated with Abrams on "Mission Impossible III." Kurtzman and Orci will executive produce with Bryan Burk, and Abrams will produce along with Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof.
"If there's something I'm dying to see, it's the brilliance and optimism of [Gene] Roddenberry's world brought back to the big screen," said Abrams. "Alex and Bob wrote an amazing script that embraces and respects Trek canon, but charts its own course. Our goal is to make a picture for everyone — life-long fans and the uninitiated. Needless to say, I am honored and excited to be part of this next chapter of Star Trek."
Brad Grey, chairman and CEO of Paramount Pictures, said, "We could not be more thrilled to be back in business with J.J. Abrams. The revival of the Star Trek franchise is an important part of Paramount's turnaround."

I'm one of the few people who will love it no matter what. I'm excited!

I have seen every Trek film on the night it opens . I expect to see this one too.

It's not too late for my idea. If it does take place at the Academy, they can have a cameo by Tpol...she could be an instructor and it would be believable. Likewise, if it's on a starship or somewhere other than the academy, T'Pol can still be part of the mission.

I'm not...
Why can't they do what they get paid big money to do and come up with NEW Trek instead of trying to recapture old Trek...

On Christmas Day? I'll have better things to do with my family...

Mojo had a fascinating idea.
They should make the movie about 15 years after TNG and center it around Spock and the whole reunification bit. That way you get new and old.
Im not completely sold on the TOS rumors bucause it's just that, rumors.

Maybe they can run into Tri'pol, their illegitimate son.

This is Good . I like the Shatnerverse the Return would make a fine film.

eh. mixed feelings. I'd prefer something AFTER TNG...but well...I'll still go see it in neutral mode. I'm not making the same mistake I made for Nemesis and expect it to be good. But I'm not going to expect it to be bad since Abrams did a good job with Mission Impossible III. I don't care about the canon issue anymore. I just want something new for once.

Hehe i drew a little comic today about st 11 and its release date, saying something like "st11, coming out just in time to ruin christmas"
still, i hope it will be good, i am going to see it on the day, and hopefully it will make my christmas awesome, i hope.
however do they really expect a lot of people to view it on christmas day>? theoretically people are with there familys and friends. so why would they do that day? im going to because i feel obligated hehe.

even though i am still not convinced this is the right thing to do with the franchise i know damn well i will be there opening night just because i am a Trek fan if for no other reason. :sarcastic:

I think that Paramount and J.J. Abrams and Co. realize that you're not going to make everybody happy, especially where this film is concerned. There are going to be some fans that will love it no matter what. And there will be some who will call it "stink on ice".
I am in the first group. I've seen every movie on Opening Night (even driving great distances if it wasn't opening in my hometown). I'll be at this one too. And I will love this one as much as I have the first ten.
starbase63 - April 11, 2007 05:41 PM (GMT)
I certainly won't go out of my way for the opening, especially since it's scheduled for Christmas Day next year...
And I'm still not cool on the reboot idea at all...
Although I've resigned myself to the fact nothing the fans say will stop them from doing it, I have decided that if someone put a phaser to my head and had to pick the next Captain Kirk, I'd go with Mark Wahlberg...he resembles Shatner more than damon does, and has that cocky swagger to him that Kirk needs...
The Shat as The Captain:

Mark Wahlberg:

I will see it as I have the other ten in the theater .

Actually, my kids want to go. We're making a day of it.
Freyr Tuck - April 13, 2007 03:29 AM (GMT)
meh. I'll see it whenever...just not on Christmas Day. That's reserved for drinking heavily and sleeping it all off, and hopefully not puking.
And I would see the Harry Potter movie before I see this new Trek film. I doubt its chances of succeeding, though, with all the rumors, one can never know what it will be about. I still disapprove of the reboot idea. It just shows a lack of imagination on the team's part because they are unwilling to create new characters that will appeal to the fanbase and to newcomers as well. And what happens if this reboot fails to appeal? Uh...yeah! What to do?! I know! USE THE GODDAMN IMAGINATION!!! Oh...WAIT...this is Hollywood we're talking about. They ran out of imagination the day they started. :sarcastic:
Don't get me wrong. I do want to be proven wrong and see this movie do well, but allow me to be the cynic.
witbee - April 13, 2007 03:30 PM (GMT)
I'll see it. Can't say when.
