This is an issue that has always bothered me.
William Shatner as Kirk
Shatner as not kirk
Nimoy as spock
Now can someone please explain to me why Shatner had to shave his chest yet Nimoy didn't?
And for that matter, do you think that vulcans would have chest hair? I suspect they would find chest hair illogical and wouldn't tolerate it.

Some guys just don't have chest hair, or at least not a lot of it. And remember, back then chest hair was sort of the "in" studly man thing. Maybe Shatner's either had none, or his chest was so spasly populated that it just made more sense to shave or wax it.
Nimoy has a decent man-pelt.

Shatner shaved his chest for the role. Why didn't Nimoy?

Because Nimoy knew that hairy chests are hot. Shatner's all over the pre-pubescent look.
