This is why the Stormfury is strictly an Xbox guy. They have always served me faithfully in the past and their customer service is magnificent.

Anyway, my current PS2 is working just fine right now,
I haven't really had to take it apart and fiddle with it
since I last took it apart.
Luckily, I marked where the sweet spot was on that white cog.

I own one of the older PS2 Models (yes, the monolith looking ones). But I bought mine in February of 2003. I haven't had one problem with it.
Yet....

I got my PS2 in June of '02, so I must have just missed the glitch stage. I recently got a PS3 and have had no problems with it for 2 months so far and I highly recommend it.

Bought my PS2 in '99. Not one problem with it.

Well, I'm sure people have problems with particular systems while others do not. My PS2 that I got in May of '01 is still going, yet oddly the only blue disc game it'll play is Encounters. Can't complain about that really. As for the Xbox line, my original xbox that I bought whenever Knights of the Old Republic came out crapped out several times with a hard-drive failure. I say several times, because oddly enough, if I picked it up and shook it after it sat unused for a week, it would correct itself for at least 2 weeks before the hard-drive would start making the nasty scratching sound again. I also got a 360 at launch, in fact system number 225, and it had a hardware failure 13 months into ownership, thus being too old even for their extended 1 year warranty. Had to shell out 130 bucks to get it fixed, and since it crashed in late November- early December, I had to wait until March before I had the money to pay for it. It's back and working, now I just need to get Legacy.

So, in my own opinion, from everything I've seen, including all of my friends who own both company's systems, the PS2 only had the issue that you're having, while the xbox line has multiple system quirks. This may just be an anomoly, but I personally think that Sony's line is better, for what its worth anyways.

for your original Xbox, the first Xbox Gen was basically a computer minus the overt operating system and a keyboard, but gut wise it was basically a PC with a windows gaming OS if you will, so if the harddrive failed it could have just been a defective harddrive, also shaking it's not going to help :lol: , if you bump a harddrive based device hard enough when it's running you'll likely crash the read/write head into the platters and kill the harddrive :lol:

if I remember I think the 360 also got some funky batches of harddrive, or it was disc drives, one of the two

honestly? if you want the best systems Nintendo's made the best longest lasting systems, I still have an NES, SNES, N64, and gamecube and they've never had so much as a tiny problem
they're only fault is that the cube didn't really get that many good games, but that thing is made like a tank, you could drop it from 100 feet and it'll still work, I'm not joking

sony's stuff is the most fragile out of the 3 (and costs the most)

:p you must have missed the compact second generation "NES deck", that baby works like a dream, (and it's about the size of 3 or so cartrages)
it came out in the early 90s just as the NES was being retired, best redundant purchise I've ever made

(oh and nintendo says blowing into the cartrages doesn't help... it rusts the contacts over time :allteeth: )

My secret weapon was a Smurf toy. Shoved it in there ontop of the cartridge to hold it down just enough.

My sister had the monolith PS2 & it died, but we were able to take it in & use for a dep on a slimline. So far the slimlines haven't crapped out. *prays they wont*

Since the patent on the orginal NES expired (or so I was told) where can I get a new top loading NES??? The 1s that came out in the 90's R hard 2 find. And of course, when they 1st came out, my NES had yet 2 develop the flashing gray/blue screen of death...so I didn't get 1. I don't do Ebay or Amazon so where can I get 1??

I thought there was something funny about the date there. And I will vouch for the ruggedness of a Gamecube. That little box has been tossed around in my trunk for 6 months before I remembered it was back there. Even had a game in it. Fired right up with no problems. That reminds me, I gotta get the new Zelda game :drew:

Haha. I am also having problems with my PS2 lately, well with the memory cards really. It seems that my PS2 wont read either one of my memory cards, I have to blow in them and put them back in a few times for it to read them once. Just goes to show that some of the most advanced gaming machines can get...ild eventually.

Well, I got a silver slim one in June '07, and that one has served me well, granted Im not playing Video Games as much anymore...

Oh, that big black one, I took it to a field and smashed it with a baseball bat.
